Why I’m Writing This Blog (Hint: I Need All the Help I Can Get)

The reason I’m writing this blog is pretty simple: I need something to keep me motivated and on task. Five years is a long, long time, and let’s be real—there’s a high chance I’ll get distracted by shiny objects and lose focus on this whole Pacific Crest Trail project. I’m the kind of person who’s likely to pick up some obscure hobby, dive deep into it, and completely neglect my PCT prep (or even lose interest altogether). Plus, in five years, I’ll be in my mid to late 40s, and my body might start getting a bit more stubborn about this whole hiking thing.

So, this blog is my way of trying to conjure a self-fulfilling prophecy. The plan? Get at least three people to follow along with me by subscribing. Just knowing those three people are on my email list will (hopefully) give me the push I need to keep going, even when things get tough. It’s kind of like goal setting, but because it’s so far away, it’s hard to really see it happening. But with this blog, I’m locking myself in. The more I write, the more I commit, and eventually, I’ll have no choice but to hike the PCT.

And who knows? Maybe someone out there is in the same boat—bung knees, midlife crisis, the whole package. Maybe they’ll appreciate knowing there’s someone else out there who’s just as crazy as they are. So, if you find my ramblings even half interesting, do me a favor—subscribe below, follow along, and let’s see where this trail takes us.
